The Patriarkes
7. And lett thy Patriarcks desire
Those great grandfathers of thy Church, which saw
More in the clowd, then wee in fire
Whome Nature cleard more, then vs grace, and Law,
And now in heaven still pray that wee
May vse our new helpes right)
Bee satisfied and fructifie in mee;
Lett not my Minde bee blinder by more light
Nor faith, by reason added, loose her sight.|
The Prophetts.
8. Thy Eagle sighted Prophetts too
Which were thy Churches Orgaines, and did sound
That Harmony which made of two
One Law, and did vnite, but not confound
Those heavenly Poetts, which did see
Thy will, and itt expresse
In rithmique feete, In common pray for mee
That I by them execute not my exces
In seeking secretts, or Poetiquenes.|
The Apostles.
9. And thy Illustrious Zodiack
Of twelue Apostles, which engirt this All
From whome whosoever doe not take
Ther light, to darke deepe pitts, throw downe and fall
As through their Praiers, thou hast lett mee know
That their Bookes are Devine
May they pray still, and bee heard, that I goe
The old broad waie in Applyinge; Oh declyne
Mee when my Comment would make thy word, Mine.| [CW: And]
