To the La: C. of C.
from France
Madam
Here where by all, all Saincts Adored are
Twere too mvch Scisme to bee singulare,
And gainst a practise generall to warr;
Yet tvrninge too Saints, should my hvmilitie
To other sainte then yow directed bee
That were to make my Scisme; Heresie.
Nor would I bee a votarie soe cold.
As not to tell yow: if this bee too bold,
Pardons are in this market cheaplie sold;
Where becawse faith is in too lowe degree,
I thought some Apostleship in mee
To speake things which by faith alone I see
That is of yow, who are a firmament
Of Vertues, where noe one is growne, nor spent
They are your Materiælls, not your Ornament
Others whome wee call vertuous are not soe
In their whole substance, but their vertues growe
But in their hvmors, and at seasons showe. |
