Lam ["How sitts this citie, late most populous,"]

Capte: 4:

Ver 1. How is the Gold become so dimme? How is
Purest, and finest Gold, thus changd to this?
The stones, which were stones of the Sanctuarie,
Scatterd in corners of each Street doe lie.

2. The precious Sonnes of Sion, which should bee
Valued, as purest Gold, how do wee see
Lowe rated now, as earthen pitchers stand,
Which are the worke of a poor Potters hand.

3. Euen the Sea-calfes draw their breasts, and giue,
Suck to their young; My peoples daughters liue,
By reason of the Foes great Cruelnes
As doe the Owles, in the vast Wilderness.

4. And when the sucking child, doth striue to drawe
His toung for thirst, cleaves to his vpper Iawe;
And when for bread the littell children crie,
There is no Man, that them doth satisfie.

5. They which before were delicately fedd,
Now in the Streetes forlorne haue perished.
And they, which ever were in Scarlett clothed,
Sitt and embrace the Dunge=hills, which they lothed.

6. The daughters of my People, haue sinnd more
Then did the Towne of Sodom sinne before,
Which beeing att once destroyed, there did remaine
No hands amongst them, to vex them againe.
