Lam ["How sitts this citie, late most populous,"]

13 Daughter Ierusalem, oh what may bee
A witnes, or Comparison for thee?
Sion to ease thee, what shall I name, like thee?
Thy breach is like the Sea, what help can bee

14 For thee Vaine foolish thinges thy Prophetts sought,
Thee thyne Iniquities, they haue not tought
Which might disturne the bondage; but for thee
False burdens, and false causes, they would see.

15 The Passengers do clap their hand, and hisse,
And wagg their head att thee, and saie, is this
That Cittie, which so many Men did call
Ioy of the Earth, and perfectest of all?

16 Thy Foes doe gape vppon thee, and they hisse,
And gnash their teeth, and saie deuour wee this:
For this is certainely the daie, which wee
Expected, and which now wee finde and see.

17 The Lord hath done that which hee purposed
Fullfild his word, of old determined:
Hee hath throwne doune, and not spard; and thy foe
Made glad aboue thee, and aduancd him so

18 But now their Hartes against the Lord doe call
Therfore O walls of Sion lett teares fall
Downe like a Riuer, daie and night: take thee
No rest, but lett thine Eie incessant bee [CW: Arise.]
