Lam ["How sitts this citie, late most populous,"]

5 Her foes are growne her Head, and liue at peace
Because, where her transgressions did increase
The Lord strooke her with sadnes, the Enimie
Doth driue her chyldren to Captiuitie.

6 From Sions daughter is all beautie gone
Like harts which seeke for pasture, and find none
Her Princes are, and now before the Foe
Which still persues them, with out strength they goe

7 Now in the daies of teares, Ierusalem
(Her men slayne by the foes, none succouring them)
Remembers what of old shee esteemed most,
Whilst her foes laughd att her, for what shee hath loste

8 Ierusalem hath sinnd therfore is shee
Remoud, as Women in uncleanenes bee,
Who honored, scorne her, for her fowlenes they
Have seene, her selfe doth groane and turne awaye

9 Her fowlenes in her skirtes was seene, yett shee
Remembred not her eand, Miraculously
Therfore shee fell, none comfortinge; Behould
O Lord my affliction, for the Foe growes bolde

10 Vppon all thinges, where her delight hath beene
The Foe hath strecht his hand, for shee hath seene
Heathen, whome thou commandst should not doe so,
Into her holy Sanctuarie goe.
