Lam ["How sitts this citie, late most populous,"]

I was your Prophett in your younger daies
And now your Chaplein, God, in you doe praise.|

The Lamentation of Ieremy for
the most part according to Tremelius.|

LM vers 1. How sitts this citie, late most populous,
Thus solitarie, and like a Widdow thus?
Amplest of Nations, Queene of Provinces
Shee was, who now thus Solitarie is

2 Still in the Night shee weepes, and her teares fall
Downe by her cheekes along, and none of all
Her louers comfort her, Perfidiously
Her friends have dealt, and now are Enimie

3 Vnto greate Bondage, and afflictions
Iuda is Captiue Led; those Nations
With whome shee dwells, no place of rest afford
In straights shee meets, her Persecutours sword

4 Emptie are the gates of Sion, and her waies
Mourne, because none come to her Solemne daies:
Her Priests do groane, her Maydes are comfortlesse
And shee is to herself a Bitternes. [CW: Her.]
