The Shadow
Stand still and I will reade to thee
A Lecture, Loue, in Loues philosophy
These 3 howers w.ch wee haue spent
Walking here, two Shadowes went
Along with vs w.ch wee our selues produc'd
But now the Sunn is iust aboue our head
Wee doe those shadowes tread
And to braue cleerenesse all things ar reduc'd.
So whilst our Infant Love did growe,
Desguises did and shadowes flowe
From vs and our Eares*, Now it is not so.
That Loue hath not attynd the least degree
W.ch still is vigilant least others see
Except our Loue at this noone stay
Wee shall new Shadowes make the other way
As the first were made to blind
Other, These w.ch come behind
Will worke vpon our selves and blind |our| eyes
If our Love faynt and wWstwardly decline;
To mee Thou falsely |thine,
And I to thee |my| Actions shall desguise
The Morning Shadowes weare away
But these growe longer all the day
But (oh) Loues day is short if Love decay
Loue is a growing and full constant light
And his first minute after noon is night
